Due to evolving emissions regulations, the standard passenger version of the Jimny is no longer available in the UK. But rather than wave goodbye to this iconic model, Suzuki has cleverly reintroduced it as a light commercial vehicle (LCV).

The result is the Jimny Alltrack — a two-seater van with a full partition behind the seats and a generous rear load area. While it may now be a commercial vehicle on paper, underneath, it remains every bit the rugged 4x4 that enthusiasts know and love.

Performance and Off-Road Ability

Under the bonnet, the Jimny Alltrack features a 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 101bhp and 130Nm of torque. It might not sound like a lot, but paired with a lightweight body and short wheelbase, it delivers exactly what’s needed for off-road adventures or rural work.

Power is sent to the rear wheels during normal driving, but thanks to the selectable four-wheel drive system, the Jimny can easily engage all four wheels when the terrain demands it. It also comes equipped with a low-range gearbox, making it impressively capable on rough ground, muddy fields, or steep inclines.

On the road, the Jimny is fun and full of character. The high driving position offers excellent visibility, while the compact dimensions make it easy to manoeuvre through tight spaces or narrow country lanes.

That said, this is a vehicle designed primarily for off-road use. On tarmac, you’ll notice body roll when cornering and a fair amount of wind noise at higher speeds not surprising given the upright, boxy shape.

The suspension is soft enough to soak up bumps and rough roads comfortably, and while it’s not the fastest vehicle around, the Jimny more than makes up for it with charm and capability.
